The funds from this SHPSF grant were used to purchase tickets for St. Helena’s Primary School’s 2nd grade students to see a performance by Doktor Kaboom at the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa in the Fall of 2016.
This highly interactive, live stage performance strives to remind audiences of all ages that the foundations of scientific discovery can be joyful tools for a lifetime. The program is designed to encourage students to express a sense of wonder, curiosity and excitement for scientific demonstrations and to creatively explore the world around them.
“This performance was not only a spectacular demonstration of the uses of solids, liquids and gases – concepts that are the common core science unit for all second graders, but also a reminder for the kids that science and math can also be a lot of fun.”

Granted: Live Performance by Doktor Kaboom! Look Out, Science is Coming!
Semester: Fall 2016
Grantee: Lea Zumwalt, Teacher, St. Helena Primary School
This SHPSF grant partially funded the purchase and construction of an outdoor playhouse in the playground area adjacent to the St. Helena Primary School. The funds were also used to purchase various toys for the playhouse including child-sized activity and tool workbenches and a tricycle. The playhouse provides an unstructured, creative play space for the primary school children to explore outside the classroom and during recess.
“There’s nothing like a play space where kids can explore their imagination and pretend play and our playhouse provides just such a place!” Tamara Sanguinetti, Principal, St. Helena Primary School
